Moving to the cloud introduces a certain amount of risk into a business, but the pros outweigh the cons if you have a failsafe in place!
SaaS data is still subject to human error, malicious deletion, misconfigured workflows, and ransomware.
This is an issue because believe it or not, SaaS Vendors Do Not Protect User Data.
Microsoft and Google are responsible for the availability of their services. And that is where their responsibilities end.
Microsoft is not liable for data loss due to app outages
From Microsoft Service Level Agreement:
"We strive to keep the Services up and running; however, all online services suffer occasional disruptions and outages, and Microsoft is not liable for any disruption or loss you may suffer as a result. In the event of an outage, you may not be able to retrieve Your Content or Data that you’ve stored.
We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services."

The question of data loss isn’t about “if” but “when”.
Already 1 out of 3 SaaS customers have lost data that they could not recover.
The most common cause of data loss in SaaS is simply accidental deletion - an end user deletes something they didn’t intend to and they don’t realize until later, or a 3rd party app integration overwrites data without anyone noticing until its too late.
We continue to see more and more ransomware attacks occuring. Strains of ransomware like Cryptolocker and Jigsaw can enter a SaaS environment via file sync.
As O365 and G Suite have such a large user bases this means that those platforms are attractive to hackers.
